YIT to implement two tunnel contracts for Vuosaari Harbour
YIT Construction Ltds Infraservices is responsible for the implementation of two subprojects tunnel contracts TU 2 and TU 5 on the Savio railway tunnel in the VUOLI project. Attention will be paid to environmental considerations during the implementation of the railway connection. Much of the track runs in an underground tunnel, linking up with the main railway line at Savio in Kerava. The total length of YITs tunnel contracts is about 6 km, close to half of the total length of the railway tunnel. Group CEO Reino Hanhinen signed the contract agreements on YITs behalf on Friday, December 3, 2004. The total value of the contract agreements is about EUR 24 million. The tunnel excavation works will be started up in December 2004. They will be seen to completion in February-March 2007.
YIT has landed numerous traffic and transport connection and harbour-related earthwork contracts for the Vuosaari Harbour project. In addition to the railway yard (2003-2004), which has already been completed and handed over, YIT is involved in the implementation of earthworks in the harbours business park (2004- 2006), harbour earthworks (2004-2005) and Finlands largest soil stabilization works (2004-2005). These earthwork contracts are valued at a total of about EUR 19 million.
Vuosaari Harbour project
The Vuosaari Harbour project is a joint project of the City of Helsinki and the Finnish State. The parties responsible for its design and implementation are the VUOSA project established by the Port of Helsinki and, in the case of traffic and transport channels, the VUOLI project founded by the State. The Finnish Road Administration, the Finnish Rail Administration and the Finnish Maritime Administration are participants in VUOLI.
The harbour project comprises the Vuosaari Harbour (150 hectares), a sea channel (36 km), a harbour railway line (19 km), the construction of a harbour road and improvement works on Ring Road III and the Itäväylä highway (a total of 5.2 km). A 73-hectare business park will also be built in connection with the harbour.
Construction works on the harbour project were started up in January 2003 and the harbour is slated for completion in 2008.
