YIT AWARDED NEW STREET AND GREEN AREA MAINTENANCE AGREEMENTS IN FINLAND

YIT has strengthened its position as a provider of municipal services by concluding five new maintenance agreements on the winter and summer maintenance of streets and green areas across Finland. The durations of the maintenance agreements are between two and six years, and their total value is approximately EUR 6 million.

YIT will assume responsibility for year-round maintenance of street and green areas in Nurmijärvi, Savio in Kerava, the Pateniemi-Ritaharju area in Oulu, and the eastern part of Joensuu as of October 1, 2011. The maintenance agreement for the western part of Lahti has already commenced in June 2011.

Quality is particularly emphasised in awarding the tenders.

”Tendering the maintenance of public areas is an effective way to solve the financial challenges faced by municipalities and also a significant factor from the point of view of the safety and well-being of people,” says Timo Paavilainen, head of YIT’s maintenance unit. ”YIT has years of experience in maintenance on a national scale. We will leverage it in the continuous development of our operations.”

YIT has also extended its previous maintenance agreements. ”Our longest-standing maintenance agreement has already lasted nearly a decade, so it is fair to speak of a genuine partnership,” Paavilainen says.

The maintenance of street and green areas is carried out by YIT’s local maintenance units and partners.
