YIT has signed a contract on the construction of a rental building subsidised by the Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland (ARA) and owned by A-Kruunu in the Kangas urban development area located near the centre of Jyväskylä. Construction started in December 2024 and the project will be completed in January 2026. The value of the contract to YIT is approximately EUR 11 million, and it will be recorded in the order book for the last quarter of the year.

The A-Kruunu plot is located on Rullakuja 3. The eight-storey building will house apartments on seven floors, and the ground floor will have a commercial space, common areas for residents and storage facilities. The scope of the project is approximately 3,700 square metres of floor space. The project is designed in line with the energy class A requirements and the building will have solar panels. The architectural design of the site drew inspiration from the former Kangas paper mill.

Kangas is the most significant urban development project of the City of Jyväskylä, where the city strives to implement the latest insights in urban planning and smart and sustainable construction. The area was selected as the District of the Year 2024 in a competition organised by the Finnish Local Heritage Federation. In addition to the Tourujoki recreational and nature conservation area, the services of the city centre and Seppälä are within easy reach of Kangas.

"The Kangas area offers an excellent location next to the centre of Jyväskylä, and YIT is one of the district’s constructors. I am glad that we will be able to continue our long-term collaboration with A-Kruunu and build new A energy class apartments for it,” says YIT’s regional director Marjaana Nissilä-Ryytty.

“It is great that we are able to carry out this project involving the construction of a communal, ambitiously designed area. The role of Ara production is now particularly important as the economic situation in housing construction remains bleak in Jyväskylä,” explains Leena Aho-Manninen, construction director for A-Kruunu.
