YIT is offering first-time home buyers in Finland an opportunity to live the first year in their new home without having to pay any charge for common expenses. In other words, YIT will pay the maintenance charge, the financing fee and the plot share charge, if applicable, for the first 12 months.

“First-time buyers do not pay an asset transfer tax on housing shares. Together, the financial value of the tax benefit and the benefits offered by YIT are considerable,” says YIT’s Eeva Hirvijärvi, Vice President, Marketing.

The Sustainable Urban Environments 2018 barometer implemented by YIT in the autumn revealed that the age of the apartment plays a major role for the millennials. Up to 60 per cent of people aged 18–35 prefer to live in a new apartment, while only 19 per cent would choose an older home.

There are probably many reasons for this, but efficient energy solutions, functional layouts, the possibility to request alterations and the absence of renovation concerns attract many.

“We want to offer this benefit so that as many people as possible will be able to buy a brand new apartment as their first home.  When the cost of living in the first year is low, it is possible to buy a home, even if, for example, there were some uncertainty about employment. When you do not need to prepare for renovations in your apartment or in the building, the monthly cost of living is predictable for several years ahead,” says Hirvijärvi.

YIT’s first-time buyer benefit applies to newly-built YIT Koti homes and those currently under construction. The campaign is valid until the end of August 2019. The benefit is available for those who:

-       are 18–39 at the time of the transaction

-       will own at least 50 per cent of the apartment after the transaction

-       buy the apartment for their permanent residence and move into it within six months of the transaction or the transfer of ownership

-       have not owned 50% or more of a housing share or house at the time of the transaction.
