YIT has received three awards in the 2017 Uusimaa Occupational Safety Competition, held by the Confederation of Finnish Construction Industries RT.

YIT Construction Ltd Infrastructure Services won the competition’s series for large corporations in the subseries’ for both companies and sites (Koksi and Vilhovuorenkatu addition’s western part, phase 1).

The Southern Finland Regional Administration Office’s challenge trophy was also awarded to YIT Construction Ltd Infrastructure Services. The Regional Administration Office’s challenge trophy is awarded to the company whose sites have the highest average MVR safety indexes.

In recent years, YIT has paid particular attention to preventive measures and has rolled out new equipment for making and sharing observations relating to occupational safety.

“All employees have been encouraged to make and share observations that promote safety. This is an effective way of ensuring that everyone can work safely at our sites,” says YIT Occupational Safety Manager Antti Jokela.

“Safety at work is everybody’s business, and if shortcomings are observed, they must be fixed immediately. This is what we have done at our site. Safety has also been improved by high-quality, electronic site inductions,” says the Site Manager for the Koksi and Vilhovuorenkatu site, Timo Teikari.

Electronic site inductions, access control and Tilaajavastuu VALTTIKORTTI cards were implemented at all possible YIT sites in 2017. In addition to safety practices, the inductions focus particularly on quality, YIT’s values, ergonomics and strategy.

YIT revised its occupational safety strategy in late 2016. At the time, three focal areas were selected: safety management and supervisory work, preventive measures as well as smooth daily operations and effective tools, which are the subject of particular attention.

Each focal area includes detailed measures, the success of which is measured by selected indicators. One of the central indicators is management site visits, which are monitored monthly.

“I wish to congratulate all those who have helped to make our projects safe to work on. Our high level of safety at work is the result of constant collaboration, with the goal of building an incident-free working community,” says Director Jouni Forsman at YIT.

*YIT and Lemminkäinen merged on February 1, 2018. YIT’ current Infrastructure Projects segment comprises YIT Business Premises and Infrastructure segment’s Infrastructure Services division (excluding the Maintenance unit) and Lemminkäinen’s Infrastructure Projects segment.
