YIT CORPORATION Press release, November 17, 2017, at 15:30
The aim of the Hippos2020 project is to build the largest and most versatile expertise centre for indoor sports and well-being services in the Nordic countries in Jyväskylä.
The consortium of YIT, Keva and OP has signed an innovation partnership agreement with the City of Jyväskylä’s procurement unit concerning the Hippos2020 project.
The City of Jyväskylä made the award decision at the end of September, based on the bids submitted in the competitive tendering for investors. Two candidates with the highest points were selected from among the four tenders, and the YIT-Keva-OP consortium was one of the two.
“Cooperation within our consortium has been excellent. The motivation to develop a feasible solution during the partnership is high, both in the city’s organisation and among investors,” says Juha Kostiainen, Senior Vice President, Sustainable Urban Development at YIT.
The procurement unit has started negotiations on the details of the Hippos2020 project with the innovation partners. The aim is to develop the project’s economic, operational and financial plan during the partnership.
The eventual decision on the future and on the contractor for the project will be made by the Jyväskylä City Council after the negotiations, by the end of 2017. The council is also free not to choose the contractor from among the submitted tenders.
The plan is for the Hippos2020 project to be built in Hippos, Jyväskylä, in the 2018–2023 period.
The new sports facilities will triple the present floor area.
In addition to the new multipurpose arena, Liikunnan Tietotalo, its commercial centre and indoor sports facilities, the Hippos area will also have a football stadium, a gymnastics centre, apartments, a hotel, parking premises, a sports boulevard and a sports park. The total area of new construction will be 200,000 m2.
