YIT joins Nordic cooperation to promote sustainable building
YIT has signed the Nordic Built Charter, under which it commits to implement the principles of sustainable building, develop technologies and share best practices in the Nordic countries. The program, carried out in 2012–2014, is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Innovation.
”The strategic principles of the Charter, to which we are now committing, are closely linked with YIT’s core mission of creating, developing and maintaining a good living environment for people. We are a forerunner in energy-efficient construction and we want to develop further solutions that make it possible to decrease the carbon footprint of buildings considerably. In developing our concept of low-energy construction, our aim has been to be ahead of the EU standards and regulations,” says Sakari Toikkanen, Senior Vice President, Business Development, at YIT Corporation.
By utilising its extensive range of services, YIT can have a significant effect on the well-being of the living environment as a whole. YIT constructs homes, offices and business premises in line with the principles of sustainability and develops increasingly energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly building system technology. YIT also actively seeks solutions for implementing distributed energy production solutions based on renewable energy sources. Besides the efficiency of energy use, YIT promotes the efficient use of materials.
The principles of the Nordic Built Charter have already been signed by over 50 companies from the Nordic countries.
”In cooperation with other parties in the industry, we have increasingly better chances of also strengthening our own competence, meeting the needs of our customers and utilising the full potential of sustainable building in our business operations," Sakari Toikkanen sums up.
