YIT INVESTS IN THE FUTURE – ENERGY EFFICIENCY SOLUTIONS CREATE MORE VALUE FOR CUSTOMERS
YIT Corporation has continued to invest in finding new solutions for enhancing energy efficiency. YIT is currently building a new research apartment that will focus on researching and developing quality factors for housing, such as energy efficiency measures. The apartment is being built as an annex to the company’s headquarters in Helsinki, where future energy saving technology for office buildings has been tested for years with good results.
– It is possible to reduce the energy consumption of existing properties by as much as 10-20 percent by using building automation and technical solutions, says Ville Tamminen, sales director at YIT Building Systems Oy.
YIT’s international co-operation also creates possibilities for developing new and innovative solutions in order to enhance the customers’ energy use. At YIT’s research and product development centre in Aachen, Germany, new solutions are being created, for example, for enhancing energy efficiency in office buildings, multi-purpose halls, hospitals and laboratories. The facility also handles high-level training.
During the past ten years, YIT has seen strong development; the company’s turnover and the number of employees have tripled, and operations have expanded to 10 new countries. The company’s vision is to be the leader in creating and maintaining a high-quality living environment. Solutions related to sustainable building and maintenance, as well as energy saving and production, are an important focus in YIT’s business operations.
Cost savings for apartment owners through energy efficiency
The majority of YIT homes that are being planned now or in the future will be built in Finland with lower energy-consumption than defined in the regulations. By investing in energy efficiency, it is possible to achieve considerable savings over the long run. For residents, this means more living comfort: no drafts, even temperatures, fresh air and cost savings.
– For us, it is very important to be able to find and offer our customers the best long-term solutions that offer sustainable development, states Tomi Mäkipelto, vice president of YIT and person responsible for energy affairs.
Affordable living consists of several factors. YIT homes are planned from the start to be energy-saving buildings that prevent heat loss. The homes are equipped with technology that encourages residents to monitor and reduce their energy consumption, and they are always connected to an affordable and environmentally friendly form of heating, such as district heating or geothermal heating.
