YIT CORPORATION Press release 30 April, at 10:30 a.m.
YIT and Stara have signed an agreement on implementing extensive paving work in Helsinki, in the eastern, western and northern parts of the city. The agreement includes wear-resistant coating for the city’s busiest roads, recycled asphalt, low temperature asphalt and red asphalt, which is used, for example, in paving cycle paths, as well as mastic asphalt work that is used, for example, in the repaving of bridges.
The project includes asphalt paving, milling and groundwork, such as spreading aggregate and sealing. The project will require approximately 80,000 tonnes of asphalt mixture. The value of the project, which starts on May 2, 2018, and will be complete by the end of November 2018, is approximately EUR 5 million.
In order to increase safety and avoid traffic jams, parts of the paving work will be carried out during nights due to the heavy traffic in Helsinki. Special attention will also be paid to the safety of road users and sites by lowering speed limits on sites and conducting traffic control based on traffic volumes.
“YIT’s part of the total paving work of the City of Helsinki this summer is extensive. Our goal is to plan the implementation and schedule openly together so that the work flows smoothly and possible inconveniences for city residents are reduced to a minimum,” says Heikki Laristo, Project Manager, Helsinki City Construction Services, Stara.
“Our goal is to plan the order of work and schedule together with the city to minimise traffic disturbances. This will mean less need for transferring machines, which means lower emissions and higher work efficiency,” says Markus Kalliomaa, Sales Director, Paving segment at YIT.
