YIT CORPORATION Press release, March 11, 2021, at 4:00 p.m.
At its meeting on March 15, the City Board of Espoo will discuss the overall contract to be concluded with YIT concerning the western part of the centre of Tapiola.
The contract covers a trade agreement for the residential and commercial plot as well as two long-term land leases. The project will be executed in phases during 2021–2026. The contract area covers the residential plots in Itätuulenkuja 2 and 4, the commercial plot in Merituulentie and connected public areas.
The result will be a high-quality complex called Tapiola’s Tuulenristi in the western part of the centre of Tapiola. The project consists of two 12-storey and one nine-storey residential buildings, one five-storey office building as well as a parking facility for the residential buildings.
The apartments in the architecturally stunning buildings built on the southern and western sides of Merituulentori square will be fitted with high-quality materials. The apartments will feature tall windows, sliding glass doors to glazed balconies as well as underfloor heating and cooling.
In total, the new buildings will enable more than 400 new residents to move to the centre of Tapiola. The construction of the first residential project for Tuultenristi, Asunto Oy Espoon Itätuuli, is planned to start in the spring of 2021.
In addition to commercial premises, the street level of Asunto Oy Espoon Itätuuli will feature a lobby for the residents of the block, a lounge, a gym, two saunas, a laundry as well as a drying room. Works of art, acquired in cooperation with EMMA (Espoo Museum of Modern Art), will be displayed in the lobby.
“When zoning the Tuultenristi area, we were able to supplement the western part of the centre of Tapiola with a wonderful combination of private and public facilities in excellent cooperation directed by the City of Espoo,” says Vice President Esa Turkka from YIT.
“This is another important step in redesigning the centre of Tapiola into an even more diverse and attractive urban centre,” says Antti Mäkinen, Project Manager for the City of Espoo.
As Tuultenristi is located next to the metro station and bus terminal of Tapiola, the area boasts excellent public transport connections. The services of Shopping Centre Ainoa and the cultural events of the centre of Tapiola are also nearby.
