ENERGY INTO EFFICIENT LIVING THROUGH THE YIT eTALO CONCEPT

Modern building technology and low-energy construction enable energy-efficient living. However, the consumption habits of the residents have a significant effect on energy consumption. YIT has developed eTalo, a web-based housing cooperative site, which will help residents to monitor their energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint.

 The YIT eTalo concept is in use in about 50 YIT apartment buildings in the metropolitan region. Use of  eTalo is quickly spreading to adjacent municipalities, as well as other YIT sites in Finland.

 eTalo serves as the electronic manual of YIT homes, and functions as a common site for its residents, the building manager and  service providers in the housing cooperative. In addition to the housing cooperative bulletins, and information and services related to living and the surroundings, eTalo offers residents the opportunity to monitor water consumption, for example, and room-specific temperatures through the energy meters on the eTalo website. The residents can directly influence their own energy bills through up-to-date information and a timely response. Furthermore, versatile opportunities for adjusting living conditions promote a comfortable lifestyle.

The residential buildings are connected to the YIT automated property control centre, which transmits real-time information to the energy meters on the eTalo website. The property control centre monitors the technical systems and energy consumption in the properties 24 hours a day. The monitoring measures enable quick reactions in the event of interruptions, and problem solving from a distance without a maintenance visit. The control centre ensures, through regular inspections of the housing sites, that energy use on the properties serves its purpose.
