YIT’s housing project is one of the most energy efficient buildings in Latvia

Winners of contest "The most energy efficient building in Latvia" have been announced. The real estate developer SIA "YIT Celtnieciba" was awarded. Housing project Bikerziedi, 4th house got 2nd place in category "Most energy efficient new apartment building in Latvia 2015".

Winners of contest "The most energy efficient building in Latvia” have been announced. The contest was organized by The Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia and the magazine „Buvinzenieris”.

The real estate developer SIA "YIT Celtniecība" was awarded. Housing project Bikerziedi, 4th house got 2nd place in category „Most energy efficient new apartment building in Latvia 2015”.

This year 25 applications were submitted, and main evaluation criteria of projects were:

  • achieved total heat consumption for heating and hot water,
  • heat savings after renovation;
  • as secondary criteria were set solutions of ventilation’s system, sustainable solutions and quality of building.

Main task of the contest is to promote good practice in the field of energy efficiency. Target is to raise awareness about heat resistance of buildings and the role ofgreenhouse gas emissions in order to create high quality living space and expressive architecture.

Minister of Economics Dana Reizniece-Ozola emphasizes: "Increasing of energy efficiency is currently one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Economics. For its implementation in the next five years, it is planned to suppert with more than 333 million euros. I am convinced that it will bring a new, much stronger impulse to further building renovation and as a result of the competition on its 10th anniversary, in Latvia will be many heatproof and beautiful buildings.”

The closing event of contest is held during the European Union's Sustainable Energy Week.

The contest is beeing organized in cooperation with the Latvian Association of Civil Engineers, the Latvian Association of Architects, the Latvian Building Materials Traders' Association,the Association of Management and Administration of Latvia, the Latvian Association of Consulting Engineers, the Latvian Association of Technical Experts, Riga Technical University, the Latvian Society of Heat, Gas and WaterTechnology Engineers, the Association of Latvian Window and Door Manufacturers, the Latvian Association of Building Material Producers, Latvian Sustainable Building Council (LSBC). Supporters of the competition are Profine Ltd., "Paroc" Ltd., "Tenapors" Ltd., ''Saint-Gobain Construction Products'' Ltd.; "Aeroc" Ltd”; „Knauf Ltd”; „Rockwool Ltd", "Grundfoss Ltd”, “Robert Bosch Ltd.”.
