YIT has operated in Russia for over 50 consecutive years, since 1961. The group formed by Yleinen Insinööritoimisto, Makrotalo and Vesto, along with their subsequent majority owner Perusyhtymä, was the leading project exporter in Finland’s Eastern trade and carried out several projects across the Soviet Union and Russia, all the way up north to the permafrost zone. The projects included construction and equipment deliveries to the wood processing, mining, metal and food industries, hotels and cultural sites, housing communities and service projects for the oil and gas industries.
The book was written by Timo Herranen, the author of A Century of Bold Builders, which was published in 2012 to mark YIT’s 100th anniversary. The book is aimed at everyone interested in the history of the construction and property industries, and the story it tells is closely linked to the broader history of the region.
The book is published in Finnish, English and Russian.
