YIT TO REALISE FINNISH NATURE CENTRE HALTIA IN ESPOO, FINLAND

YIT and Nuuksiokeskus Oy have today entered into an agreement whereby YIT will realise the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia in Nuuksio, Espoo. Nuuksiokeskus Oy is a real estate company that has been established by Metsähallitus, the City of Espoo and Solvalla Nedre for construction of Haltia. The value of the project is approximately EUR 11 million. The project will feature ecological timber construction, using only massive timber structures and timber cladding, apart from the underground basement. The construction of the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia has already begun, and it will be opened to the public in early 2013.

The main contracts for the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia will be realised as a YIT development project from the foundation phases to the construction of the property and its building systems. ”In the Haltia project, we will be able to utilise all of our businesses’ experience and diverse competence in implementing ecological and energy-efficient solutions,” says Tapio Salo, the head of YIT’s unit for commercial construction activity. “Haltia is a significant project for YIT in terms of its construction as well as its future use.”

The wooden structures of the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia will be supplied and fitted by Eridomic Oy, a subsidiary of Stora Enso.

Environment and energy efficiency are the starting points for implementation

In the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia, sustainability and energy efficiency will also be realised by way of the building system solutions of the property. Ground heat and solar energy will be utilised in heating and cooling the building, and heat from the air conditioning exhaust air will be recovered to the system. An integrated building automation system will automatically control air conditioning and lighting on the basis of weather conditions and presence, while also optimising energy consumption.
