YIT TO PROVIDE BUILDING SYSTEM SERVICES FOR A CLEANROOM IN AUSTRIA AND A LABORATORY IN GERMANY

YIT has been awarded two new contracts as an indication of its expertise in building systems for cleanrooms and high-security laboratories. In Austria, YIT will install the building technology for cleanroom facilities for Infineon Technologies Austria AG, which is located in Villach, Austria. The Germany-based Bernhard-Nocht-Institut (BNI) chose YIT to take care of facility management for its biosafety level 3 and 4 laboratories in Hamburg. The value of the contract signed in Austria is approximately EUR 6 million, and the value of the contract signed in Germany is approximately EUR 0.5 million.

Infineon Technologies Austria AG is expanding its facilities in Carinthia by building a pilot plant there with the purpose of mass-producing 300 mm wafers that are used in solar panels. The building technology installation of the cleanroom commenced in September when YIT began installing 640 fan filters in the cleanroom. In the project, YIT is responsible for cleanroom technology, process cooling water, process vacuum, ventilation, air conditioning, heating technology, fire protection, instrumentation, process control and automation. The goal is to commission part of the cleanroom by the end of October. The intention is to hand over the entire building to the customer at the end of 2011.

YIT will be responsible for the ventilation and air conditioning systems for BNI's administrative and laboratory complex, which focuses on tropical medicine, for the next five years. The stringent safety regulations (EN 12128) impose special requirements for the ventilation technology because a consistent level of negative pressure has to be maintained in the facilities at all times, even in the case of malfunction. Approximately 45 ventilation and air conditioning systems with a capacity of some 90,000 cubic metres per hour have been installed in the centre. YIT has been involved in the construction of the BNI administrative and laboratory complex since 2007, and as a result of the new contract, can now seamlessly provide the customer with expertise in building technology for high security level laboratories.
