YIT STARTED A LARGE ENERGY SAVING PROJECT IN DENMARK

YIT A/S won a large tender for energy renovation of a number of buildings in Helsingør Municipality, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The cooperation has the potential to be the largest agreement of its kind in Denmark as it is the intention to include a total of 90 buildings covering approximately 164.000 m2 in the project. YIT and Helsingør Municipality implement the project in several stages considering the achieved results in energy savings. The first agreement was signed in December, it has a value of EUR 2.8 million and it covers approx. 35.000 m2 in 7 buildings.

The signed agreement is a so-called ESCO-cooperation (energy-saving company), which will ensure a reduction of the municipality’s emission of carbon dioxides, and at the same time the municipality will get significant cost savings on energy consumption.

-  YIT is facing a huge task, because of the potential of nothing less than 90 municipal buildings. It shows that we are very ambitious, but at the same time we are convinced that the money is well spent, because we will achieve both a considerable reduction of carbon dioxides and save lots of money for electricity and heating. At the same time we will obtain a much better indoor climate for people working in the buildings daily, says Johannes Hecht-Nielsen, Mayor of Helsingør Municipality.

The order fits the strategic focus of YIT within energy saving concepts, and the company is very well prepared for this new big project:

- At present we are busy executing the second largest ESCO-project in Denmark in Halsnæs Municipality. The value of that project is approximately EUR 12 million. Our experience from this project combined with the knowledge of our specialists within energy saving solutions will ensure efficient and energy saving operation of the technical installations of the buildings in Helsingør Municipality, explains managing director Leo G. Sørensen from YIT A/S.
