YIT receives an order for the first phase of the construction of the Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway

The Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway alliance will enter the implementation phase after the municipalities in the area came to a decision on the construction of the tramway. YIT is involved in the project as an alliance partner as part of a group, where YIT and NRC Group Finland are responsible for the construction and AFRY Finland Oy and Sweco Finland Oy are responsible for the design. The group of companies was selected as a service provider for the development phase of the project in the autumn of 2023. The project was commissioned by Tampere Raitiotie Oy, the City of Tampere and the Municipality of Pirkkala.

The construction of the project will proceed in two stages. In the first stage, the tramway will be built to Partola in Pirkkala and Niihama in Tampere. The construction is expected to start at the end of 2024 and be completed in August 2028. The implementation of the second phase of the Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway requires that state support is secured.

The value of the first-phase order for YIT is approximately EUR 115 million, which will be recorded in the order book of the last quarter of 2024 after the agreement has been signed. The agreement is due to be signed at the beginning of December, after the decisions of the councils have entered into legal force.

The implementation of the project includes tramway construction with street construction, engineering structures, the expansion of the current depot and the construction of power supply stations.

The construction of tramways in Tampere aims at an efficient public transportation system that supports the densification of the urban structure and urban development. YIT is currently finalising part 2 of the Tampere Tramway Alliance with its partners, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
