YIT IMPLEMENTS CONTRACT WORTH ALMOST EUR 17 MILLION AT VUORES SCHOOL CENTRE IN TAMPERE, FINLAND
Today, YIT and Tampere City Facilities Management signed a contract on renovation of Vuores School Centre in Tampere, Finland. The value of the contract is EUR 16.7 million. YIT will be the main contractor for the first construction stage of the school centre. The contract consists of the implementation of a building unit of 11,750 m2 in the Vuores district of Tampere, close to an area where a house fair will be arranged next summer. Stages 1a and 1b of the YIT contract will be completed in June and December 2013. The estimated completion date for the entire school centre is by the end of 2016.
This project is one of Tampere City Facilities Management's low energy construction pilot projects. The property will offer facilities of energy efficiency rating A for a comprehensive school, nursery school, kindergarten and healthcare centre. Furthermore, the residents of Vuores will be able to use the school centre as a versatile leisure centre in the evenings and on weekends. "Tampere City Facilities Management wants to be a pioneer in energy-efficient construction. The approach applies particularly well to this project because the property itself will be part of a learning environment. Children and other users of the property will be able to see for themselves how the construction method works and what are its environmental impacts," explains Antti Lakka, project engineer at Tampere City Facilities Management.
The new Vuores residential area will host the Finnish Housing Fair in 2012, and it is one of the most important urban construction and versatile housing projects. YIT is currently constructing two residential sites in Vuores in addition to the school centre. Once complete, these will include almost one hundred homes. The Sinivuokko project, where the client is Tampere Rented Housing Association VTS, consists of 59 detached and terraced houses, and a block of flats, housing company Asunto Oy Tampereen Vuorenpeikko, implemented as a separate project includes 36 flats. The Vuorenpeikko project will be completed in the summer of 2013. "We are very pleased to be able to construct a school centre that will serve the residents of Vuores and meet the current energy requirements. We are also very happy to provide our own input in versatile housing construction in a regional project of this scope," says Heikki K. Hannukkala, unit head from YIT Business Premises.
