YIT DELIVERS BUILDING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY TO EDEKA SÜDBAYERN'S NEW LOGISTICS CENTER IN GERMANY

YIT and grocery cooperative EDEKA Südbayern have made an agreement with a value of EUR 11.4 million on  building systems for a central warehouse that is under construction in Landsberg am Lech, Germany. YIT's delivery includes installing a majority of the supply systems, including heating/cooling, ventilation and air-conditioning technology, sanitation, compressed air, instrumentation, control, and automation, and electrical equipment. The construction period is from April to October in 2012. In an additional contract EDEKA Südbayern is also entrusting YIT with the full range of maintenance services required for these systems during the 5 years warranty period.

The brief construction period on a building area measuring some 20 hectares requires seamless collaboration between all those involved in the project. System installation works in the warehouse spaces with up to 30 meters high ceilings pose high requirements also for the work safety and logistical preparation. YIT was commissioned for the project because the company relies on its own employees to assemble all the systems in-house and because it has already delivered high-quality results on schedule in similar projects.

Three different temperature zones are planned for the warehouse space. The heat required for maintaining these temperatures in the heating circuit will be generated by a conventional gas heating system and several heat pumps. The waste heat produced by the large cooling systems and air compressors will also be used. All excess heat will be stored in a sprinkler supply tank measuring 3,000 cubic meters. In terms of electrical equipment, YIT is installing an extensive, innovative fire detection system in the high spaces of the warehouse.
