LEMMINKÄINEN CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 22 DECEMBER 2017 12 NOON
LEMMINKÄINEN TO BUILD THE NEW H BUILDING AT VAASA CENTRAL HOSPITAL THROUGH ALLIANCE CONTRACTING
A project group of Lemminkäinen, Ramboll Finland, Arkkitehtistudio Kujala & Kolehmainen, Kontukoski Architects Ltd and Granlund Pohjanmaa has been selected to design and construct the new H Building of Vaasa Central Hospital through a project alliance contract with the Vaasa Hospital District in Finland. The one-year development phase will begin immediately, after which a project implementation agreement will be made at the end of 2018. During the development phase the contents and execution of the project will be planned and its target costs are determined. The building will start operating in the first quarter of 2022.
The new building of the Vaasa Central Hospital, to be located in the Hietalahti area, will be adaptable and versatile in design. The estimated area of the building totals approximately 30,000 square metres gross. The building will host specialised healthcare services of the healthcare and social services district of Ostrobothnia and the basic healthcare services of the Vaasa region, as well as regional and private social services. It will accommodate a central clinic that will host the centralised activities of the Vaasa area health centres.
“We will build healthy and safe facilities for customers and the staff alike, and the facilities will make it easy to carry out multi-sectoral cooperation that will best help the customer. We have introduced customer involvement from the preparatory phase. With the help of digitalisation and remote access, the services will be available for all customers, no matter where they live,” comments acting Director Marina Kinnunen from the Vaasa Hospital District.
“In the alliance, we can take advantage of the expertise, experience and needs of all of the parties involved in the best possible way. In this project, quality and local presence will have a key role, and we will be able to offer the alliance contract expertise that we have gathered at the national level for use in Vaasa,” states Pauli Mäkelä, Lemminkäinen’s Executive Vice President, Building construction.
“Ramboll has decades of experience from the planning of demanding hospital projects. We are happy that we are able to share our expertise to benefit the people of Ostrobothnia in this important project,” comments Juha-Pekka Smolander, Director of Structural Engineering from Ramboll Finland.
“When we seek to find new processes and operating models in a customer- and user-oriented planning process of a hospital, an alliance contract that brings all the parties together is a natural project model,” points out the principal designer of the project, CEO Rami Kolehmainen from the architecture agency Arkkitehtistudio Kujala & Kolehmainen.
“Our design work in the project is based on good cooperation with the users and the entire alliance contract group. Building information modelling and design tools for user-oriented projects are the key,” says architectural designer of the project, CEO Petri Kontukoski from Kontukoski Architects Ltd.
“The importance of technical building systems continues to increase with the digitalisation of hospitals and the Vaasa Central Hospital is also keen to invest in smart technical building systems. We are familiar with the area of the hospital, as we have been the framework agreement designers for more than 10 years,” explains CEO Kari Rintamäki from Granlund Pohjanmaa. Granlund is responsible for the design of the technical building systems and energy optimisation of the project.
In the tender, the selection criteria of the Vaasa Hospital District included best value for money, which was rated by price and the tenderers’ ability to work as a part of an alliance contract and produce value for money.
