Lemminkäinen seeks solutions for improving information flow and efficiency through the InfraHack innovation competition

LEMMINKÄINEN CORPORATION        PRESS RELEASE       27 March 2017 AT 8:30 A.M.

LEMMINKÄINEN SEEKS SOLUTIONS FOR IMPROVING INFORMATION FLOW AND EFFICIENCY THROUGH THE INFRAHACK INNOVATION COMPETITION

Lemminkäinen will organise an innovation competition, InfraHack, on 19 - 21 May 2017 in Helsinki. The goal is to find new ideas and solutions for improving information flow and operational efficiency.

We invite external experts, such as start-up companies, service designers, innovators and software engineers, to participate in our InfraHack competition.

“The construction industry is one of the world’s least digitalized sectors. It also lags behind other industries in terms of productivity development. These facts are bound to be linked. We want to change this trend and find out what we can learn from other industries in terms of new technologies,” says Robert Blumberg, Executive Vice President, Paving.

“We are construction professionals and good at what we do. We are now looking for external insight on how to utilise experiences and digital applications of other industries. We have a lot of information dispersed throughout our operations, as infrastructure processes are partly run in silos. This is why information flow plays such an important role in enhancing our overall operations,” explains Harri Kailasalo, Executive Vice President, Infra projects.

Deadline for team applications is 21 April

Teams are welcome to apply to the competition until 21 April 2017 at https://industryhack.com/challenges/infrahack/. We will choose six to ten teams that will get a closer look at the construction industry as well as Lemminkäinen’s paving and infra projects businesses.

The competition will culminate in a weekend hackathon in May, where the chosen teams will seek solutions to the challenges presented. The winners will be announced at the close of the event. The best ideas will be rewarded and possibly piloted in 2017.

Lemminkäinen will organise the competition in cooperation with IndustryHack. Follow the InfraHack competition online on Lemminkäinen’s own channels using the hashtag #InfraHack.
