Lemminkäinen will construct the Nepenmäki school in Joensuu

LEMMINKÄINEN WILL CONSTRUCT THE NEPENMÄKI SCHOOL IN JOENSUU 

Lemminkäinen and the City of Joensuu have signed an agreement on constructing the Nepenmäki school in Joensuu, in Eastern Finland. The work will be carried out as a shared contract, and Lemminkäinen will be responsible of the technical construction work. The work will begin in the autumn of 2016 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2018. The total value of the project is EUR 22.7 million, of which Lemminkäinen’s share is EUR 13 million.   

The new building of Nepenmäki twelve-year school will have a floor area of 10,745 square metres and will be used by approximately 700 schoolchildren and one hundred staff members.  In addition, there will be a library as well as sports, youth and community college facilities in order to achieve as high a utilisation rate as possible. 

“We aim to create facilities that are flexible and multifunctional from a pedagogical perspective. Modern learning environments also include special classrooms with new technology. We have had positive experiences with Lemminkäinen’s competence from the Karhunmäki school project,” says the manager of Joensuu’s facility centre Timo Korhonen.  

Lemminkäinen is currently constructing also six residential buildings in Joensuu.
