Lemminkäinen to construct the superstucture of the T3 building of the Turku University Hospital

LEMMINKÄINEN TO CONSTRUCT THE SUPERSTUCTURE OF THE T3 BUILDING OF THE TURKU UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Lemminkäinen and the Hospital District of Southwest Finland signed a contract on the construction of the superstructure of building T3 of the Turku University Hospital. The work will start in March 2016 and be completed in November 2017. The contract value is approximately EUR 25 million.

The contract comprises the construction of a concrete decking and load-bearing vertical structures in the area of the Turku University Hospital, along with the necessary exceptional traffic connections. The deck will cover parts of Helsinginkatu and the railway and adjoin the hospital’s current parking facilities. The new extension of the T3 building, which will replace the current U building after its completion, will also be located on the deck.

The total area of the superstructure is approximately 9,600 square metres.

“This construction contract is the concrete first step of the construction of the T3 building. The concrete deck will also serve as a connection between the current hospital facilities in the area between Kiinanmyllymäki and Savitehtaankatu,” says Timo Seppälä, Project Leader at the Hospital District of Southwest Finland.

“VR will launch its new faster train service between Turku and Helsinki simultaneously with the start of our work. This will increase the passenger volumes at the station. We will minimise any disturbances to surroundings caused by our work. We will pay special attention to the smooth flow of traffic during the construction,” says Harri Kailasalo, Executive Vice President of the Infra projects segment at Lemminkäinen.
