Professor Pertti Vakkilainen appointed Chairman of the Oskari Vilamo Fund

PROFESSOR PERTTI VAKKILAINEN APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF THE OSKARI VILAMO FUND
 

Professor Pertti Vakkilainen has been appointed Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Oskari Vilamo Fund, one of the funds presided over by the Foundation for Economic Education. The fund, established by Lemminkäinen in 1985 and named after Economic Counsellor Oskari Vilamo, aims to promote higher-level research into construction and the related preconditions.
 

Pertti Vakkilainen graduated from the University of Technology in 1970 with an M.Sc. (Eng.) and completed his doctoral degree in technology at the University of Oulu in 1982. Professor Vakkilainen has an impressive career in water resources management and water engineering as a teacher, researcher and expert. In addition to the University of Technology, Professor Vakkilainen has worked for the National Board of Waters and for the University of Oulu as acting assistant professor in water engineering. In 1983 to 1992, he was professor of water resources management at the University of Technology, and was appointed professor of water resources management and water engineering in 1992.
 

In addition to his main occupation, Professor Vakkilainen has held a number of expert positions and positions of trust at university level, including that of expert counselor for the Supreme Administrative Court since 1992. From 1990 to 1996, Professor Vakkilainen was the Head of Department at the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering and Surveying and a member of the University's Board of Directors at the University of Technology. In 2002 to 2009, he was Head of Department at the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at the University. Moreover, Professor Vakkilainen has held a number of prominent international expert and research positions in water resources management and water engineering around the world.
 

Every year, the Oskari Vilamo Fund grants awards for the best academic theses related to construction. Furthermore, the Fund presents an annual merit award to a key influential person in the construction industry. In addition to Professor Vakkilainen, members of the Fund's Advisory Committee include Ms Kristina Pentti-von Walzel (M.Sc.Econ, B.Sc.Pol.Sc.), Ms Leena Arimo (M.Sc.Eng.) and Mr Lars Forstén (M.Sc.Eng.). Mr Matti Aalto (MA) serves as the secretary to the Advisory Committee.
