Lemminkäinen wins contract to build underground parking facility in Oulu city center

LEMMINKÄINEN WINS CONTRACT TO BUILD UNDERGROUND PARKING FACILITY IN OULU CITY CENTRE

Oulun Pysäköinti Oy, owned by the City of Oulu, has awarded the contract for building an underground parking facility in the city centre to Lemminkäinen. The total value of the project is roughly 70 million euros.

Oulu City Council has approved the project's financing decision today. The actual contract will be signed in approximately four weeks from now, once the appeal period on the award of contract is over.

The project utilises Lemminkäinen's expertise in infrastructure and building construction and in technical building systems, illustrating Lemminkäinen's capacity to complete challenging underground building projects within an urban structure. Project work is planned to begin in June 2012, and the project is due for completion in 2015.

"This project is a showcase of cooperation among all our lines of business. Our engineering, rock and foundation construction experts in particular will play a lead role", commented Risto Kupila, Vice President, Rock Engineering at Lemminkäinen.

The parking facility will house approximately 900 parking spaces. In addition, a civil-defence shelter for 3,000 people is to be built. There will be two entrances to the premises, one from Hallituskatu and the other from Torinranta. The underground facilities will be directly connected to the premises above through lifts and staircases.
