LEMMINKÄINEN BUILDS A WOODEN SCHOOL IN KOUVOLA

Lemminkäinen and the City of Kouvola have signed a contract for the construction of a wooden school building for comprehensive school pupils. The new school building, named Mansikka-ahon koulu, will be built next to the current Mansikka-aho School, providing a place of learning for approximately six hundred pupils in grades 1-6. The pupils of the Tornionmäki and the current Mansikka-aho comprehensive schools will relocate to the new building, as well as some of the pupils of the Kangas School. Construction work will begin in November, with the building due for completion in the spring of 2014. The value of the contract is approximately 6.8 million euros.

Wood elements for the school will be delivered by Lemminkäinen's partner Koskisen Oy. Notable wood construction projects previously undertaken by Lemminkäinen include the Pilke House in Rovaniemi, winner of the 2011 wood award, and the Metla house in Joensuu, which received the same award in 2005.
