Lemminkäinen lands 20-million-euro excavation contract at Pahtavaara gold mine

LEMMINKÄINEN LANDS 20-MILLION-EURO EXCAVATION CONTRACT AT PAHTAVAARA GOLD MINE

Lemminkäinen Infra's subsidiary Tolarock Oy has been elected to carry out the excavation contract for 2012-2013 at Pahtavaara gold mine. Located in Sodankylä, the mine is owned by Lappland Goldminers Oy. This 20-million-euro contract is a continuation of Tolarock's three-year excavation contract, which ends this year. The new contract includes the option for further excavations in 2014.

"The new contract is a natural extension to our existing excavation contract at Pahtavaara. For the past three years, we have been in charge of all tunnel excavation and productive excavation work at the mine," says Vice President Risto Kupila, Lemminkäinen.

Seven kilometres of work tunnels and about 900,000 tons of gold will be excavated under the new contract in the next two years. In addition, the contract includes the reinforcement of work tunnels, the excavation of ventilation shafts and the transportation of blast stone to the refinery.

In recent years, Lemminkäinen has carried out excavation work around Finland, for example, at the Elijärvi, Hitura, Talvivaara, Suurkuusikko (Kittilä) and Pampalo mines. Lemminkäinen currently has excavation contracts ongoing in Sweden at the Kiruna and Svartliden mines. In addition, Lemminkäinen is conducting major construction work at the Kevitsa mine in Sodankylä.
