LEMMINKÄINEN CONSTRUCTING FACILITIES FOR YARA IN SIILINJÄRVI

Lemminkäinen has concluded an agreement with fertiliser manufacturer Yara Suomi Oy regarding the construction of various facilities used in connection with mining at Yara's phosphate mine, serving their Siilinjärvi plant. This complex, to be built in the yard of the Siilinjärvi mine, will comprise offices, a repair shop, a washing plant and storage facilities. The combined surface area of the facilities will amount to 6,350 m², while their cubic capacity will total 63,000 m³. Construction in an active mining area adds to the challenge of the project.

The Yara project will involve all of Lemminkäinen's business sectors, as a one united Lemminkäinen. Lemminkäinen will be responsible for building design and construction, technical building services (including equipment), and for work done on the areas surrounding the buildings. Rock material required for on-site land construction work will be made by crushing blast stones created during mining. Moreover, district heating channels will be constructed in the area and part of the area will be paved with asphalt. The total value of the contract is some EUR 13.5 million. Construction will commence immediately, with the buildings being finished by March 2012. Land construction work will be finished in June 2012.

Yara in brief
A subsidiary of Yara International ASA, Yara Suomi Oy provides an extensive selection of fertilisers for agricultural farmers and forest owners. Additionally, the company manufactures and markets nitrogen chemicals for various branches of industry, as well as products used for environmental protection. The company has four production plants in Finland, located in Uusikaupunki, Harjavalta, Kokkola and Siilinjärvi. The Siilinjärvi mine is Europe's only phosphate mine. In Finland, Yara employs almost 900 people in jobs related to manufacturing, product development, sales and marketing.

The Siilinjärvi plant in brief
Founded in 1969, the Siilinjärvi plant produces apatite, fertilisers, phosphoric acid and process chemicals. Apatite and sulphuric acid, the primary materials used for fertiliser production, are extracted and manufactured at the company’s own Siilinjärvi mine and plant. Apatite from Siilijärvi is known as the purest apatite in the world. Some 350 Yara employees work at the plant. Including partners' employees, the total number of workers at the mine and plant rises to around 500.
