LEMMINKÄINEN AWARDED NORWEGIAN STATE PAVING CONTRACTS WORTH EUR 26 MILLION
In this year's tendering rounds, Lemminkäinen has won paving contracts from the Norwegian state worth a total of 26 million euros. These account for approximately 14 per cent of the paving contracts to be awarded. Lemminkäinen received 12 paving contracts, with a total asphalt volume of 250,000 tons. The work is focused in Southern and Eastern Norway.
State procurement for the ongoing year included paving contracts worth a total of 186 million euros, a 17% increase on the previous year. Lemminkäinen increased its share of state paving works by over 50% from the previous year. The current contracts are awarded by the Norwegian Public Road Administration. In addition, Lemminkäinen will continue with the paving work begun last year for Bergen airport.
In Norway, paving works by Lemminkäinen have been focused in the municipal and private sector, which will put their contracts out to tender later in the spring.
Nordic infrastructure construction is one of Lemminkäinen's strategic growth areas.
Lemminkäinen has been in the infrastructure construction business in Norway since 2001. In 2010, the net sales of Lemminkäinen Norge AS totalled around EUR 130 million. The company employs 450 people.
Last year, Lemminkäinen expanded its operations in Norway through the acquisitions of Asfalt Remix, which specialises in the cold milling of asphalt pavement, and Risa Rock, a specialist in tunnel excavation. In addition, in December 2010 Lemminkäinen announced the acquisition of Mesta Industri, a national paving contractor and provider of mineral aggregates. This deal is still pending approval by the Norwegian competition authorities. After the acquisition, Lemminkäinen will be the second largest paving contractor in Norway.
