Sustainability management

Sustainability as part of YIT’s strategy.

Our strategy for 2022–2025 will be executed through three strategic priority areas: Focus, Productivity, and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Our updated ESG strategy will set new standards for the industry.

  • Regarding Environmental criteria, we are committed to the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius in line with the Paris Agreement. The SBTi has approved and validated our emission reduction targets in June 2023.
  • Concerning Social criteria, we continue to develop and build better living environments. Furthermore, our goal is a zero-accident work community. We develop proactive measures for improving occupational safety with a target of continuously decreasing accident frequency.
  • In terms of Governance criteria, we maintain a strict approach towards combatting the grey economy. We do not tolerate corruption, labour exploitation, or discrimination.

YIT’s Board of Directors approves sustainability-related strategic objectives, monitors risk management and decides on compensation and benefits related to sustainability. At the operational level, sustainability is managed by the President and CEO, the Group Management Team, business unit directors and the Executive Vice President in charge of ESG issues.

The framework for sustainability management is established by YIT’s eight material sustainability themes, for which targets are set and actions are planned for achieving the targets during the strategy period 2022-2025.

YIT has also established a Green Finance Framework to support investments promoting the transition towards a low-carbon circular economy. The Green Finance Framework will enable YIT to issue green bonds and other green financial instruments to finance projects with environmental benefits. The Framework will be one of the tools to support YIT to reach its climate and sustainability targets.
